With pandemic restrictions and safety protocols impacting the local-area soup kitchens and pantries’ ability to serve the at-risk population, many were forced to endure the harsh reality of not knowing when they would eat again.
In a concerted effort to fulfill the Sunnah and serve our neighbors, The Muslim Center of Greater Princeton sought funds to secure a van and food supplies to prepare and distribute meals to NJ communities that are most in need. The goal of the Muslim Center’s Hunger Van Initiative was to begin delivering meals first on Christmas Eve 2020 and then beyond, to help combat hunger for the holidays and to ensure that the most vulnerable children, women, and men of Mercer County, NJ were able to enjoy hearty and nutritious meals. We acquired the van for $25,000 and raised the remaining $75,000 for food supplies to prepare meals, gasoline, a driver, and other related expenses for the entirety of a year.
Our goal was to reach an average of 1,000 meals served per month, serving at least 250 patrons every week, totaling 12,000 meals served by the end of 2021. Alhamdulilah, we achieved all of the above. Since the local soup and food kitchens are only active Monday through Friday, we planned to serve on the weekends to fill the meal gaps for those in need.
SubhanAllah, in 2022, our operations, partnerships, and reach have expanded. We have now acquired a 2nd van, run the drives 4x a week, and have doubled our destination sites from 4 sites to 8 sites in the last 6 months. In order to keep up with the expenses of preparing and delivering an average of 1,000 meals a week / serving 250 patrons a week, we would like to request that you to contribute generously to our campaign. Meals are provided to any and all persons, no questions asked. With your contributions, we will be able to continue bringing sustenance to our local brothers and sisters, from young children to the elderly, and provide the healing that comes with a healthy meal.

Campaign Deadline Extended!

Hope you are all doing well. We have an exciting update - We have decided to extend our campaign to January 31st, 2021!
With being so close to 50% of our goal, we have no doubt that with a few more weeks of fundraising, we can get all the way to the finish line. The Hunger Van is in process and will be ready for pick-up by the end of this week, inshAllah. We are on track to launch our initiative next week, on Christmas Eve, with our first round of meal delivery at the 4 sites that we have identified in conjunction with TASK (Trenton Area Soup Kitchen).
The funds that we have raised so far will be sufficient for the first couple months (BIG THANK YOU FOR THAT!) but in order to achieve our goal of meal deliveries beyond that, we will continue to campaign and raise funds until we reach $75,000.
