A 7.8 magnitude, shallow-depth earthquake has hit southern Turkiye claiming 2,300+ lives with this number expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. The epicenter of what is now the worst earthquake to strike the country in nearly 100 years was near Gaziantep, a major city in southern Turkey and home to millions of Syrian refugees. At least 120 aftershocks have been felt since then, further damaging thousands of homes and buildings and leaving countless people helpless in freezing winter weather.
