BACKGROUND: The most in-depth and detailed direct-to-English Qur'anic Commentary of our times, Project Illumine: The Light of the Qu'ran, was completed in April 2023 by Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl at The Institute for Advanced Usuli Studies ("The Usuli Institute"). Dr. Abou El Fadl took three years to share his intensive thematic and ethical deep dives into every chapter of the Qur'an. All 500+ hours of halaqas are available for free online, however, we are now working to edit and publish this entire body of knowledge in book form for future generations. ABOUT DR. KHALED ABOU EL FADL

Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl is the Omar and Azmeralda Alfi Distinguished Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law, and one of the world’s leading authorities on Shari'ah, Islamic law, and Islam. He was also formerly the Chair of the Islamic Studies Interdepartmental Program at UCLA.  He has served on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and Board of Directors of Human Rights Watch. Among his many honors and distinctions, Dr. Abou El Fadl received the University of Oslo Human Rights Award in 2007, and the 2020 Martin Marty Award for the Public Understanding of Religion by the American Academy of Religion (AAR).
