This year, Eid-Aladha feels different for our people in Sudan. Although Eid Aladha is usually a time for celebration, it becomes hard for them to find joy amid the harsh reality of displacement and death.

However, you can bring happiness to our brothers and sisters in Sudan. Donating to our campaign can provide Qurbani/Udhiya and ensure their daily meals.

In this Eid, SAMA is raising $30,000 to provide Udhiya/Qurbani and secure daily meals for a thousand displaced people who are located in two centers in Port Sudan, Sudan. A donation of $215 will provide a sheep. A $100 share of a calf will feed 30-35 people in Sudan. 

Sudan is on the brink of famine!

Since the first bullet was fired in mid-April 2023, the continuing war in Sudan has forced over 9 million Sudanese people to evacuate their residences carrying nothing but a few pieces of clothing, medicines, and other necessary items, creating the biggest displacement crisis in the world.

According to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), extreme food insecurity and malnutrition affect 18 million people in Sudan, making it one of the world's biggest food insecurity crises. With rising food prices and poor income, many families struggle to find daily meals. Approximately 4 million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition, and if medical treatment is not provided, more than 700,000 children with severe acute malnutrition may die from starvation.

SAMA feeding efforts

Since the start of the war, the Sudanese American Medical Association (SAMA)* has collaborated with local partners in Sudan to deliver emergency food assistance to internally displaced persons in the White Nile, Sinnar, and Red Sea States. To date, we have been able to secure daily meals for over 15,000 IDPs.

SAMA purchases raw food supplies, including vegetables, oils, lentils, cereals, and other items, from local vendors and transports them to IDP centers. These items are prepared by internally displaced people and served as meals.  At the heart of this project is the active participation of internally displaced persons in preparing meals, which creates a supportive environment that empowers the displaced.
