A devastating fire broke out in one of the busiest markets in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The fire in Waheen market catastrophically destroyed the livelihoods of thousands, including hundreds of businesses. The damage is reported to be up to $2 billion. The fire comes amidst the first few hours of Ramadan, when the food business traditionally booms as Muslims gather to prepare meals and feast together as a community.

Islamic Relief Canada will work closely with Relieve Humanity International to bring awareness in the Muslim community about this tragic incident and bring relief to those impacted. Both immediate aid and long term recovery efforts will be carried out by Relieve Humanity International with Islamic Relief Canada’s support.
