The Situation:

The East Coast Monsoon has brought relentless rainfall, causing widespread flooding across the nation. In total, 7 out of 14 Malaysian states are now partly underwater.

Floodwater is rising rapidly around the mosque and villages in the Machang District, Kelantan.

Within just 48 hours, the number of flood survivors has skyrocketed from 3,000 to 75,000, and the situation continues to worsen as the rainfall persists.

The fire department is constantly monitoring the river's water level.

The worst-hit state is Kelantan, located on the border with Thailand, with the total number of evacuees standing at 59,000 as of 9 AM, 29 November 2024.

Tragically, the floodwaters from South Thailand, which has already seen over 300,000 evacuations, are now flowing into Kelantan, worsening the crisis and leaving thousands more at risk. This is due to the Golok River (Sungai Golok), which flows from Thailand and ends in Kelantan.

The typical East Coast monsoon season will end in late February 2024. Until then, several more waves of flooding are expected.

As the floods devastate communities, the need for immediate relief is dire. While many survivors will seek shelter in government-run relief centers, Iltizam Relief Society will focus on those staying at home or taking refuge in mosques.

Boats are used to deliver food to those who remain at home.

These survivors often refuse to move to relief centers, even though their homes are surrounded by floodwater. Together, we can deliver food and clean water, sleeping mat and other supplies to those in desperate need.

These are villages with vulnerable populations, where survivors typically do not relocate to relief centers because their homes are raised above the ground to prevent floodwater from entering.

With the arrival of the East Coast monsoon season, we must act now to provide relief in response to this catastrophic situation. The East Coast of Malaysia faces unique challenges, particularly for its predominantly Muslim and rural communities, unlike the more developed West Coast states.

Our Goals:

We aim to raise USD 25 x 2,000 survivors = USD 50,000 to provide essential aid, including food, water, and sleeping mats, to those affected by the floods.

How You Can Help:

Your contribution can make a significant difference. Our focus is to provide ready-to-eat meals, food packs, and clean water and sleeping mats, and other essential supplies to affected families.

Please, pray for Malaysia and join us in this crucial mission.

Your support can make a difference. Join us in providing relief to flood survivors in Kelantan and beyond.

Donate now to help deliver essential supplies to those in need.

Food Baskets and Free Shopping for Flood Survivors

Three full loads of flood aid are being transported using three lorries.

On 20/12/2024, this time, we extended our assistance to 700 families in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, providing essential food baskets, hygiene kits, and 100 baby kits.

On the following day, we organized a special shopping session for 137 students from flood-affected families who are preparing for their crucial SPM examinations.

Students were taken to a shopping mall in Kota Bharu and allowed to freely choose new clothes, with a limit of USD45 per person.

These students lost everything, including their clothes, when their homes were submerged in the recent flood.

With new clothes, we hope their spirits will be restored after the devastating flood, allowing them to perform well in this crucial examination that determines their next path in education.

In total, 4,760 families (close to 20,000 people), 137 students, and 100 babies received our flood relief assistance during this year’s East Coast monsoon floods.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Together, we bring hope and help to those in need. Thank you for standing with us.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecasted another episode of continuous rain between 28 December 2024 and January 2025.

Your support will be crucial in helping us prepare early for the challenges ahead.
