What am I doing?
I am taking part in the Annual Boat Race, an event which has been established by the Al-Noor Foundation in the Summer of 2018, at Fairlop Waters in the London Borough of Redbridge.
Where are the funds going?
Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) rasies funds to spread education, healthcare services, and access to water across Pakistan in order to empower underprivileged communities for a better future. With our vision of providing basic necessities to the underprivileged, SAF teams work to provide immediate assistance to maintain life, improve health and support the morale of the affected population. SAF puts a lot of effort to provide healthy food to the underprivileged through its ration drives not only across Pakistan but also internationally from serving fasting Muslims in UAE in the month of Ramadan to distributing ration packs in Australia, US, and Canada. Donations can go towards ration packs which currently cost £25 per pack.
About Shahid Afridi Foundation
SAF is a non-profit organization in Pakistan with Globally registered Chapters in USA, UK, Australia, & South Africa. Our aim is to improve the conditions of the underprivileged communities of our society in terms of Education, Healthcare Services, Access to Water, Sports Rehabilitation and Emergency Relief Response..
About the Boat Race
The event is open to all schools, faith groups, charities and corporate organisations. The event aims to unite the community whereby individuals, families and organisations have the opportunity to raise money for charitable causes which are close to their hearts, by simply registering for a boat and participating in the race.
Boat races are part of the great heritage of British culture and an amazing way to unite both competitors and communities together behind a common cause. Dragon Boat racing is something which is growing in popularity in the UK, originating from Southern China’s Guangdong Province.
The boats we will be using can accommodate up to 17 riders at a time and will be provided by a specialist Dragon Boat company which the Foundation has partnered up with to run the event.
