NEPAL'S HARSH WINTER

Nepal, with its diverse geography of mountains, highlands, and lowlands, experiences harsh winters due to varying ground elevations. The occurrence of cold waves poses a significant threat to the Nepalese people living in the Terai (lowlands) region.

Each year, many lives are lost in Nepal due to extreme cold, exacerbated by the lack of government support. 

THEY ARE UNABLE TO WARM THEMSELVES

Poverty prevents most Nepalese people in the Terai region from adequately protecting themselves against the cold. Desperate to stay warm, they resort to burning straw, which often leads to fatal house fires. Last year alone, nine deaths were recorded due to these fires.

NEPAL'S WINTER AID PROJECT

Iltizam is preparing to send aid to the Nepalese people during the harsh winter in Nepal. The project will be conducted by our ground partner, Helping Heart Nepal.

Types of aid:

I. Food packs: Crucial for many malnourished Nepalese to help them stay warm by consuming adequate nutrients

Each pack consists of:

• Rice 25kg
• Pulses Musuri 1kg
• Cooking oil 1L
• Bitten rice 1kg
• Sugar 1kg
• Salt 1kg
• Tea 500g
• Biscuits 10pcs
   

Cost for each pack: $27
Target: 300 families
Total cost: $26 x 300 = $8,100

II. Quilt blanket: To help poor Nepalese insulate themselves from the cold even in their homes, as many of the houses are built using bamboo and mud.

Cost for each blanket: $13
Target: 300 families
Total cost: $13 x 300 = $3,900

GRAND TOTAL: $12,000

Iltizam's Experience in Nepal

In 2019, Iltizam initiated its efforts to assist the people of Nepal. Our first project in Nepal was the Qurbani campaign. Since then, we have undertaken several meaningful projects in the country to uplift and support the local communities. Some notable endeavors include:

• Tube Well Project: Recently, we completed the construction of our 200th tube well, a vital initiative aimed at providing clean and safe water to Nepalese communities. You can see the project at LaunchGood here.
• Winter Aid Project: Our Winter Aid Project was designed to address the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals during the harsh winter months. By providing essential resources and support, we strive to alleviate their suffering.
• Skill Improvement Project: Iltizam has initiated a sewing class to empower underprivileged Nepalese women with valuable skills. Through this project, we aim to enhance their prospects for a better livelihood and a brighter future.
• Food Aid Nepal: Recognizing the urgent need for food security, Iltizam has been actively providing food aid to those in need throughout Nepal. Our efforts seek to ensure that vulnerable communities have access to nutritious meals, combating hunger and malnutrition.
• Sadaqah Ramadan Nepal: During the blessed month of Ramadan, Iltizam facilitates the distribution of Sadaqah (charitable donations) in Nepal, reaching out to those who require support the most.
• Qurbani Project: Upholding the spirit of Eid Ul Adha, Iltizam carries out the Qurbani project in Nepal, providing fresh meat to those in need and promoting the values of compassion and sharing.
