By donating today, you can help provide the gift of clean water to over 600 households - over 3000 people.

In April 2021 we visited the neglected coastal village of Goth Manjar, Sindh – situated by the Arabian Sea and approximately 50km away from the city of Karachi.

A vast majority of villagers live in abject poverty and nearly 95 per cent of the population depends on small-scale fishing. Their fishing boats are becoming less and less fit for purpose, forcing them into the hands of opportunistic money lenders, who in turn take their valuable produce at almost next to nothing.

This however, is not the most pressing concern facing these beleaguered villagers – there is currently no safe drinking water available within the vicinity. Most are left with only a few options; using dangerous stored up rainwater, walking miles to access the remains of nearby ponds or spending a large portion of their minimal earnings on deliveries of small water tanks.

Malnourishment, sickness and ultimately death from this lack of safe water, livelihood and food provision is becoming an all too common occurrence for the people of Goth Manjar.

Action Plan:

Having seen first-hand the dire situation of the of this village, Humanity Calling will be working to lay the first building block in supporting the locals of this area – clean water. Working in partnership once again with the Pakistan Navy, we have devised a formal proposal to implement a high quality, solar-powered Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant close to the village and accessible from further afield.

What is Reverse Osmosis (RO)?

Reverse osmosis is a water purification process that uses a semi-permeable membrane (synthetic lining) to filter out unwanted molecules and large particles such as contaminants and sediments like chlorine, salt, and dirt from drinking water. In addition to removing contaminants and sediments, reverse osmosis can also remove microorganisms – which you certainly do not want to drink. It gets water clean down to a molecular level, leaving only pure H2O behind.

Impact:

Upon completion, this RO plant will provide safe, clean drinking water to not only the residents of Goth Manjar, but an additional 4-5 surrounding villages –

Building on our established relationship, the Pakistan Navy will oversee the long term running and maintenance of the plant to ensure it continues to be a source of ease for the locals.
