Over the past few years, we have consistently witnessed the most vulnerable suffer, including the Rohingya and Syrian refugees, as well as children and families in Gaza, Yemen, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan — just to name a few. Some of these individuals are on the brink of survival. When the bitter cold hits, they suffer the most. 

Those who have fled war and persecution fall into a greater risk of danger and illness as temperatures drop. 

Every winter, the MAUSA team works hard to make a difference in the lives of those in greatest need. This year, we will be providing winter packages (blankets, winter jackets, sweaters, socks, gloves, hats, shawls), warm nutritious meals, and firewood for heat. We will also be working with partners on the ground to improve shelters for women and children.

A 20-year study found that more than 5 million people die each year globally because of extreme temperatures.

These items will not only help provide warmth and comfort — they could save lives.

Allah reminds us of the significance of our effort to do this in Surah Maidah: “...And whoever saves a life – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” (Qur’an, 5:32)
