Fidyah is a certain amount of wealth, determined in a specific measure, that is obligatory to be given to the poor as a substitute for a missed religious obligation, as stated in the words of Allah,

“…For those who can only fast with extreme difficulty, compensation can be made by feeding a needy person ˹for every day not fasted˺. But whoever volunteers to give more, it is better for them. And to fast is better for you, if only you knew. (QS. Al-Baqarah : 184)”

How much is the fidyah rate that you must pay?

According to the Shafi'i school of thought, the required fidyah to be paid is one mud (675 grams/6.75 ounces) per missed fasting day, in the form of staple food in the local area, which in the context of Indonesia is rice. If for a full month, it means 30 mud (20,250 grams or 20.25 kilograms) of rice.
