Our Civil Rights team completed 295 intakes (and counting) this year!

Our team filed a lawsuit on September 17 against the Los Angeles Police Department on behalf of Nusaiba Mubarak, who had her hijab forcibly removed by LAPD officers while she was at hearing at the Los Angeles Police Commission. Without warning, three police officers seized her, handcuffed her, and shoved her in a room, without any explanation, and proceeded to search her and remove her headscarf while she was was exposed to male officers. Eventually she was released without any charges. The case is in progress.

Our Immigrants Rights Center has completed 457 intakes and taken on 127 cases (and counting) this year! The team has also led over a dozen workshops, presentations, and naturalization clinics.

Our team issued a press release exposing a Facebook hate group that requires answering Islamophobic questions to become a member. Facebook responded by shutting down the hate group. During the outrage, the mayor of Garden Grove apologized for being part of the group and issued a statement of solidarity with the Muslim community.
