The initial $20,000 goal was reached in just two days, with donations pouring in at over $500/hour since the campaign launched! American Muslims Respond

Fundraiser for Colorado Victims' Families

#Muslims4Boulder

On Monday, March 22, 10 people between the ages of 20 and 65 were killed in a horrible mass shooting at a Boulder, Colorado supermarket. Attack survivors and families who have lost loved ones are grappling with the reality of this senseless act of violence. This shooting occurred less than a week after the horrific massacre targeting the Asian-American community in Atlanta, Georgia (see link below to support those families).

As we grieve this heartbreaking loss of life, a collective of Muslim-American leaders and organizations are uniting to raise funds for the victim's families through this CelebrateMercy campaign on LaunchGood.

The Campaign

We wish to respond to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action. The Quran teaches: "Repel evil with that which is better" (41:34). Our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "Have mercy to those on earth, and the One in the Heavens (God) will have mercy upon you."

We ask for American Muslim mosques, Imams, leaders, and groups to endorse and promote this crowdfunding initiative for the victims' families. Campaign endorsers are only required to help promote it via email and social media (sign up below). For media inquires, see Resources section below.

The Funds

All fundraising proceeds will go towards the shooting victims' families and caretakers, helping them with both their immediate and long-term expenses. Our initial goal is to raise $20,000 but we may continue raising the goal if funds are raised quickly. No amount of money will bring back the families' loved ones, but we do hope to lessen the families' burdens in some way. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "The most beloved to God are those who help people most."

Though this is a Muslim-led campaign, we welcome our friends of other faiths to also contribute. Only one day after the shooting, a non-Muslim resident of Boulder left this heartwarming message just outside the Islamic Center of Boulder. We hope to work hand-in-hand with friends of all faiths to help the victims and their families.

CelebrateMercy is coordinating with Muslim leaders in Colorado to ensure that funds raised will reach the victims' families through local non-profits. Funds will be disbursed through Boulder County Crisis Fund and Imagine! Colorado. We will share frequent updates on this page as this process is underway.

This campaign was initiated by CelebrateMercy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization on March 23, 2021. All donations are tax-deductible.

Resources:

Last Week's Mass Shooting (Atlanta):

Earlier this month, another mass shooting took place in the city of Atlanta, mainly targeting people of Asian descent. We highly encourage you to also support the victims' families through the campaigns verified in this article.

Media Coverage

About CelebrateMercy

CelebrateMercy - a US-based organization that teaches about the Prophet Muhammad's life and character through films, programs, and Prophet-inspired social campaigns that respond to evil with good. Its recent campaigns raised over $150,000 to repair vandalized Jewish cemeteries, over $200,000 for victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, and nearly $2 million USD for New Zealand mosque shooting victims. Media stories about each campaign reached over 100 million people worldwide, including this TV interview on CNN and this shout-out from Stephen Colbert on his Late Show.

Recent Campaigns

At CelebrateMercy, we strive to implement the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) way of universal mercy. Whenever unfortunate tragedies take place that devastate so many innocent lives, be they Muslim or otherwise, we aim to respond to evil with good. We wish that we were in a position to organize campaigns for all such unfortunate events, but are limited for obvious reasons such as lack of proper staffing (our team has only 4 full-time staff members). We do, however, bring awareness to existing campaigns whenever possible to make sure that the victims and those most impacted receive the necessary emergency funds and support they need. Here is a list of recent campaigns - since 2015 - that we have led and partnered on, mostly in response to a tragedy:

Imam Shafi'i about tonight

Salam,

Imam Shafi'i said that there are 5 nights when duas are accepted. Tonight - the 1st night of Eid - is one of them.

CelebrateMercy is hosting a special Ramadan Farewell Dua session tonight to close out the month of Ramadan. Shaykh Yasir Fahmy will give final advice as we bid farewell to Ramadan then lead us in a dua in Arabic and English, begging Allah to accept our Ramadan worship; he'll also read dua requests from the audience. We expect thousands to tune in insha-Allah. Please see the flyer, info, and RSVP link below:

PS: CelebrateMercy is struggling to reach the finish line with our annual Ramadan fundraiser (we're at 90%). If you have benefited from our programs (80 webinars in 30 days) and you can help us sustain them year-round, please consider donating. We also send beautiful appreciation gifts to donors. It would be amazing to hit our goal by Eid day.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and please remember the CelebrateMercy team in your dua!

Salaam,

The CelebrateMercy Team

Update: A request (slain Texas teachers)

Dear Generous Donor,

In March 2021, you donated to support our CelebrateMercy campaign: Muslims Unite for Boulder Families. Thank you for being a part of raising nearly $40,000 for families of the mass shooting victims in Boulder, Colorado.

I'm part of the CelebrateMercy team and wanted to make sure you heard about our new campaign: raising funds for the families of the fallen teachers in Uvalde, Texas after last week's mass shooting at the elementary school. Last Tuesday, two teachers were killed while attempting to protect their students from gunfire; they left behind 5 children of their own who have now lost a mother and provider. One teacher's husband also just passed away from a heart attack; relatives said that he died of a broken heart only two days after his wife was killed.

This campaign met the fundraising goal of $20,000 in less than 20 hours and continues to increase. Though it's a Muslim-led campaign, friends of all faiths are encouraged to support it. See the official flyer below. You can learn more, volunteer and donate here: LaunchGood.com/Uvalde

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me back.

Sending you greetings of peace,

Donations Disbursement to Victims' Families and Caretakers

Greetings of Peace,

On March 22, 2021, 10 people between the ages of 20 and 65 were killed in a horrible mass shooting at a Boulder, Colorado supermarket. CelebrateMercy - along with local organizations - raised $39,518 to support the families and caretakers of the victims.

You were one of the donors who contributed to the campaign, and we would like to share with you this update:

CelebrateMercy is happy to announce that all the proceeds of this campaign have been distributed with the help of two local organizations: Imagine! Colorado and the Colorado Organization for Victim's Assistance (COVA). The funds have reached the families and caregivers of the victims in August and September 2021. Click Here to check out the thank you letter that CelebrateMercy received from Imagine! Colorado.

We are very grateful to you and all the donors, and pray that this financial help alleviates some of the pain of the families and caregivers of the victims, as they heal from their losses.

Gratefully,

The CelebrateMercy Team

Email from Jewish-American

CelebrateMercy's #Muslims4Boulder campaign is inspiring Muslims and friends of all faiths alike to come together and support our fellow brothers and sisters in humanity. Below, you can read a beautiful message CelebrateMercy received this morning in response to our fundraising appeal for this campaign.

We are incredibly moved by your generous donations which have helped us surpass our second goal of $30,000, raising about $5,000 per day. The goal has been increased a final time to $40,000 to better meet the immediate and long-term needs of Boulder victims' families and caregivers. Please continue to amplify this campaign by sharing it with your families and friends. The campaign is closing very soon.

Email from Jewish-American donor:

Subhan

I was not aware of these efforts. Thank you for your email, I will donate to both.

I am not Muslim, but a Jew, and I suspect I support your charitable giving for the same reasons other non-Muslims do. First of course is that the funds help provide an important need.  But second, I like to think that my giving via your organization helps in some way to solidify our communities (all communities). And as importantly, it is also my duty to help change minds of these who hold prejudices. Charity is one of the tenets of both our people’s, and maybe those who have animosity will have there eyes/hearts opened by your organizations efforts.

Regards,
Scott

UPDATE #3: Washington Post, 2nd Goal

Our #Muslims4Boulder campaign is making big news! We were humbled to see it featured in The Washington Post on Thursday, March 25. The Post reaches at least 1 million people online and over 300,000 in print. Read the WaPo article titled "Muslim groups are raising money for Colorado shooting victims" here.

This media exposure has positively impacted the campaign as well. In just *one day* since the funding goal was raised, generous supporters like you have given $27,000 toward Boulder families and caregivers. We hope to reach our second goal of $30,000 very soon.

We thank you once again for opening your hearts to Boulder families when they need it most.

The initial goal of $20,000 was reached in just two days, with donations pouring in at over $500 per hour since the campaign launched! We are also pleased to share that word of this campaign has reached one of the largest media publications in Denver, Colorado. You can read The Denver Gazette's coverage of Muslims Unite for Boulder Families here. You can also read RNS' (Religious News Service) story here, which was the first article to be written about the campaign.
