This campaign will collect all funds raised by April 6, 2020 at 3:00 AM EDT

Low-Income families across America stand to lose the most from the COVID—19 outbreak. Let’s stand together and make sure that no family gets left behind.

  • UPDATE (April 2, 9 PM): Financial assistance checks have now been sent out to 660 households, helping 2,100 individuals altogether. Over $426,000 has already been distributed to these families.  Assistance checks have ranged between $250 and $1000 based on a needs based point system.
  • Due to the high number of applications for COVID19 Financial Hardship Grants, we are currently not accepting new applications. Once we raise enough funds to process pending requests for aid, we will re-open the application. Pleas check back in a few days.
  • UPDATE (March 16, 10 PM): Within 24 hours, this campaign has raised over $100,000; five times the original $20,000 goal. We will keep raising the goal as more funds are raised.

The Crisis

COVID-19 continues to spread globally and across the United States. As of March 27, there were over 500,000 confirmed cases worldwide and over 80,000 in the USA (more than any other country).

Experts are recommending that people avoid large crowds, maintain a reasonable supply of shelf-stable foods in case they end up quarantined, and stay home from work if they feel unwell. However, heeding this advice is a privilege that many Americans cannot afford, especially low-income families, contractors, self-employed individuals and the elderly. Loss of wages, unpaid sick leave, food insecurity, and lack of access to healthcare are anticipated to disproportionately impact these groups.

The Campaign

As of today, there are no signs that the epidemic will come to an end soon. This campaign organized by Penny Appeal USA, CelebrateMercy, and ICNYU, is focusing on providing checks to families most in need. While food boxes and hygiene kits are essential, these checks will enable families to pay their rent, their utilities, their medication as well as their transportation. We welcome you to join this solidarity campaign which is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Lost Wages

As a result of the pandemic, many are losing their monthly incomes. Taxi drivers, food-service workers, flight attendants, and janitorial staff are some of many professions that could face months of financial struggle.

Elderly

Not only are the elderly the most vulnerable to dying from COVID-19, they’re also among the poorest here in the US. They are among the least able to stock up on groceries and supplies. According to the Pension Rights Center, the median income for retired adults over age 65 in 2017 was less than $20,000.

The Funds & How to Apply

100% of fundraising proceeds from this campaign will be used to support struggling low-income families who are impacted by this crisis. All donations are tax-deductible.

For those who are economically impacted by COVID-19, see below to apply for our COVID-19 Financial Hardship Grant. We plan to respond to applications within 1 week. Successful applicants will be awarded a grant for use towards food, bills, and any uncovered living expenses as a result of quarantine and/or work and school closures. Please Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered and applicants must reply to the Confirmation Email with the requested documents.

The fight against COVID-19 continues

Dear valued supporter,

Last year, at the beginning of the pandemic, you helped us raised over $1,500,000 in financial assistance, helping +1,500 American families in 37 states who have lost their income pay for their living expenses. The measure of your impact goes well beyond the numbers listed here.

Now, we ask you to join us again. Almost 8 million Americans have fallen into poverty since May. Over 65 million Americans have filed for unemployment, leaving families with lost income, food insecurity, and lack of access to healthcare. To address this high need, Penny Appeal USA and Islamic Center at NYU (ICNYU) are reopening the COVID19 Financial Hardship Grant program this month.

Like the last campaign, your donation will be distributed as grants to families who are directly impacted by COVID-19. You can assist families in need and help them pay rent, feed their families, and provide essentials such as healthcare, utilities, and insurance.

We need your help to reach more people in need this year. Visit launchgood.com/CovidRelief and join us today in making 2021 a joyous beginning for thousands of Americans nationwide.

Final Few Hours

Dear Supporter,

Thank you for your generous contribution.

Together we have been able to raise just over $505,000. This has enabled us to issue funds to 668 households (2158 individuals), each of whom have been sent checks already.

There are only a few hours remaining of this campaign. We are trying to get to $525,000 before the campaign comes to a close as we have 230 families still in need of assistance.

Please do consider making a final contribution to help us close this gap. 100% of the proceeds are going right into the hands of families. Families like Ihyanna's:

Thank you once again for your support.

Those of you living in the US will receive a tax-exempt receipt from Penny Appeal USA in the coming few days.

With your continued help, we are trying to reach or immediate goal of $500,000. 100% of the proceeds from this campaign are going to families in need.

Please do share this campaign with your friends, family and colleagues, and please do consider making a second gift if you are in a blessed position to do so.

We pray that you and your families remain safe.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

.......

"Thank you seems to be so little for so much! As a mother and social worker I understood what it looked like to be under-employed or unemployed or mentally unstable or ill. I have studied to assist and help others and I thought I was doing amazing work—until the day that I realized when battling my own demons I had little capacity to help others effectively. It took years for me to reach out for support and I endured and ran and hid.

It’s amazing to be on the other side of this journey. We understand hardship and working to shift the narrative.

My children require and deserve my love, dedication, attention, and best self. Your gift allows me to continue to provide the stability that they deserve to function, grow, thrive, and succeed every day.

Your time and gift is appreciated beyond what can be written here. Know that you are helping to create lasting life long changes in our journey!"

CoronaVirus Emergency Response: 1 week in

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your recent donation to support our Coronavirus Emergency Launchgood campaign. Many families across this nation are suffering financially because of this outbreak. With your support, we were able to do the following in only one week:

• Together, we raised over $300,000 for those impacted by the outbreak.

• Over $90,000 in grants has already been sent out to 147 households, providing immediate relief to more than 400 individuals.

We are working tirelessly to make sure we can assist as many applicants as possible. We have already received more than 1,100 applications and counting– that's more than 100 applications every day. It's clear that the need is high.

Based on the current demand, our immediate target is to raise $500,000.

Please consider making another contribution to the campaign and please do share the campaign with your friends and family.

Thank you,
