In 2020, we gave $1.5M to over 1,400 families afflicted with financial hardship due to COVID19. You can help us serve hundreds more still affected!

Thousands Affected Nationwide. They Need Your Help!

Penny Appeal USA and Islamic Center at NYU (ICNYU) are launching Phase 2 of the COVID19 Financial Hardship Grant program.

You can assist families in need to pay rent, feed their families, and provide essentials such as healthcare, utilities, and insurance. Give today so we can serve these families as soon as possible!

The Need is Still Great Across The Nation

Almost 8 million Americans—many children and minorities—have fallen into poverty since May. Over 65 million Americans have filed for unemployment because families are faced with lost income, food insecurity, and lack of access to healthcare.

According to the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, some 85 million adults — 36 percent of all adults in the country — reported it was somewhat or very difficult for their household to cover usual expenses as a result of the pandemic.

While the US Government has announced a new round of Emergency Relief Funding, this one-time payment will only provide temporary relief and will not reach all families who need help. Moreover, while the moratorium on rent and evictions has been extended through the end of January, families have increased levels of debt, accumulated over the last 9 months. The families we serve are likely already left out of government funding and lack access to employment.

Last Year's Campaign:

We received over 4,000 applications for assistance in March 2020 when we launched our first COVID-19 emergency relief campaign. Because of your generosity, we raised $1.5M and were able to provide cash grants to 1,415 families, assisting over 4,300 individuals in 37 states. Two-thirds of the recipients reported an income of less than $1,000 per month or no income at all. A quarter of the recipients were immigrants and/or asylum seekers.

You can help more families in need by making a gift today!

Families across the nation are struggling:

"...[it] has affected the family due to all family members being laid off from work, even myself who works in the medical field..." - Student applying for her family, Santa Clara, California

"...my husband and I own a small pizza family business and lost most of [our] big orders due to schools shutting down...we are trying our best to make sure not to fall behind on our payments and all..." - Small Business Owner, San Jose, California

"...and worst of all for the Covid-19 to take my two love[d] one[s] away, my husband and my mom...it left me with no income or no one to turn to..."  - Single mother, Bronx, New York (alhamdulillah we were able to send her a relief check)

How To Apply For Cash Assistance:

The proceeds from this campaign will be used to support struggling low-income families who are impacted by this crisis. Half of the funds raised will be used in the state of NY, and half will be distributed across the country on a first-come, first-serve basis and based on financial need. All donations are tax-deductible.

For those who are economically impacted by COVID-19, see below to apply for our COVID-19 Financial Hardship Grant. We plan to respond to applications within 1 week. Successful applicants will be awarded a grant (between $500 and $2500) for use towards food, bills, and any uncovered living expenses as a result of quarantine and/or work and school closures.

Please Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered, and applicants must reply to the Confirmation Email with the requested documents.
