Taking care of orphans like our own

-Orphan House Foundation is a San Francisco Bay Area-based educational nonprofit that supports 28 boys and girls at its orphanage in Kabul,Afghanistan. Each child is raised with a quality-over-quantity approach. The organization’s tagline is a “home where we raise orphans like our own.”

-The quality orphan stewardship ethos has translated into recognition in 2013 by the European Union as “the best orphanage in Kabul.”

-Each orphan is housed in a safe, clean home and receives private schooling, quality healthcare, physical education, extracurricular activities, and field trips.

-Orphan House Foundation is run by volunteers so your contributions go directly and only to the proper care and feeding of orphans.

-It cost about $150 a month to provide for the children each month for a total of $50400 a year

-In phase one we are aiming to collect $10,000 of our total

-With your help we completed and have implemented three projects funded through Launchgood including Karim's surgery.  He required 14 hour spinal surgery where had to remove two vertebral bodies and add hardware to fix his back defect.

The Project

-It cost about $150 /child a month to provide for the children for a total of $50400 a year for all 28 orphans.  This will provide:

• Housing
• Private schooling
• Private Driver to and from school
• Private tutors
• Food and clothing
• Field trips
• Medical needs
• After school private English, math, science, and computer training courses

An Islamic Mandate for Orphan Care

We are inspired by Prophetic values to strive to shelter, clothe, care, and “feed orphans from what we eat.” We are also reminded Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was himself an orphan. Our founding principle has been to raise the orphans in our care with the same level of love and compassion as we would our own in the U.S. We are heartened for our own mortal selves and this Foundation’s donors and supporters when we read this saying from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):

"I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter Paradise together like this, raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly, leaving no space in between." [Saheeh al-Bukhari]

An orphan is the Muslim Ummah’s collective responsibility. Imagine your child needs surgery and you cannot afford it. Every parent knows deep in the recesses of his or her heart that they would suffer, scrape, and sacrifice to make that operation happen. Karim has no father or mother to make those sacrifices for him.
