Cries of hunger, suffering, and oppression does not seem to end. According to a recent report by the World Food Program (WFP), six children around the world die of hunger every minute. The number increases each year due to perpetual war, natural disasters, and a huge wealth disparity. This has taken a physical and mental toll on those affected, particularly the children and women. 

Despite the constant debate surrounding issues of trauma, oppression, and human rights violations, the reality on the ground remains the same.

Hence, Islamic Relief Malaysia aims to help over 100,000 people in more than 30 countries including Indonesia, Bosnia and others through projects involving humanitarian assistance and seasonal programme assistance.

EMERGENCY

Millions of civilians in the Middle East need urgent aid to resume their livelihood after being caught in the crossfires of war for years. Millions more are starving, with children under the age of 5 at the brink of death due to starvation. In certain areas, over 1 million children are still relying on humanitarian aid for their survival.

WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE (WASH)

In certain areas of South Asia, millions are trapped between a river source of contaminated river water and a bacterial-filled pool,  with no access to clean water. Meanwhile on the other side of the world, our African brothers and sisters are suffering from drought. The situation of the land was too much for them. There are no flowing rivers to obtain water from. Children, women, and men need to carry a yellow barrel and walk for an average of six hours to get water.

LIVELIHOOD

Millions around the world are struggling to come out of the cycle of poverty that has plagued them for so long. There are 23.1 million people in the Philippines, 364 million in India and 25.9 million people in Indonesia living below the poverty line. In other areas plagued by war, 9 out of 10 of its residents rely on humanitarian aid for survival. Parents are faced with a dilemma on which issues to prioritize, eventually choosing to focus on providing food and protection for their children over other essentials such as education, hygiene, and health.
