Where will your money go?

The Black Muslim Athletes Fund will allow Black Muslim girls and women in the Toronto area to enrol in sports programs, invest in sport gear and equipment and overall, participate in sport without worrying about financial costs. Participation in sports has proven to bring lifelong benefits such as discipline, teamwork, social development and leadership skills. The goal is that with this program, more Black Muslim females in Toronto, participate in sport and experience the positive outcomes of playing sport, making our sport communities become more diverse, and in turn, more inclusive.

With your help, Hijabi Ballers’ Black Muslim Athletes Fund will support the athletic dreams and passions of Black Muslim females. Financial inaccessibility is a common barrier many families face when it comes to sport, and it’s often a key factor that makes parents hesitant to support the athletic passions of their daughters.  

With gear, league fees, transportation, training fees and equipment, sports can become extremely costly. This fund will make sports financially accessible, and even provide an incentive for parents to enrol their daughters in sport.

Focus on Girls 

We also know that by the age of 14, twice as many girls drop out of sport as boys. And this number is likely higher in Muslim communities, due to issues of sexism and cultural taboo regarding girls playing sport. 

“O You who believe! Be upholders of justice, bearing witness for God alone, even against yourselves or your parents and relatives. Whether they are rich or poor, God is well able to look after them. Do not follow your own desires and deviate from the truth. If you twist or turn away, God is aware of what you do.” — (Surah An-Nisa, 4:135)
