MyYateem campaign aims to help orphans by providing them with educational supports, basic health needs, food and nutrition, and psychosocial support. The project will benefit orphans in more than 20 countries including Palestine, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Somalia, Yemen, and Indonesia.

Did you know?
· More than 14 million children are living as orphans due to poverty, war, disease/outbreak, and other causes.
· More than 100 million children have been rendered homeless.
· There are 14 million orphans in the world, with more than 130 million children who have lost
one of their parents.
· More than 100 million children are living on the streets.
· 1.2 million children become the targets of human trafficking every year.
· 5.7 million children are currently working in child labor (paid and unpaid).
· 2 million children are forced into the commercial sex industry.
· 2.3 million children under the age of 15 are diagnosed with HIV / AIDS.
· Over the past 10 years, more than 1 million children have been separated from their families as
a result of armed conflict.
· In 2006, it was estimated that 93 million children of primary school age were not attending
school.


And they ask you about orphans. Say, “Improvement for them is best. And if you mix your affairs with
theirs – they are your brothers.” [Al-Baqarah: 220]
The situation for many around the world is dire, with thousands of people fleeing their war-ravaged
countries and turning into either migrants or refugees. What makes it more saddening is that many
children are left orphaned due to violence, accident, or natural causes that change their lives irrevocably in an instant. The figures from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) showed over half of the world’s refugees are children. With many crossing on boats to foreign lands, one can
imagine how distressing the situation must have been for them to choose to brave dangerous oceans to get to safety, overstaying put in their home country. 153 million is a number that represents
worldwide orphans without either one or both parents.
It is now more important than ever for us to take a step in supporting these children, especially the
orphans.

 Islamic Relief is currently in the process of funding the Alternative Livelihoods for Orphan Family Sponsorship Programme (ALO) which is ongoing in Indonesia, benefiting 175 orphan households. Let’s provide them with the food, education, health care, love, and psychological support they deserve. Besides saving an orphan’s life, this is one of the ways for us to give sadaqah.
