Palestinian artisans have been deeply affected over the past 2 years with COVID-19. We need your help to support more than 25 women artisan groups in Palestine.

UPDATE: 29/11/2021

Extending our goal to $15,000 after tourism has been shut down again!

We are extending the goal of our campaign to $15,000 until the 12th of December.

As you might have heard that Israeli Occupation has recently decided to close its borders due to the Corona Pandemic again. Meaning that our borders will be closed too.

We were hoping for tourism to come back to Palestine to support small businesses and artisans depending on Christmas Season to sell especially in tourist areas like Bethlehem & Jerusalem. Another closure isn't what we were hoping for.

Today marks the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People and tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, so if you're looking for a way to give to a cause that keeps giving we encourage you to support our campaign.

Thank you for supporting us. Together we are stronger.

UPDATE 3/11/2021

Thank you to everyone who helped us pass the 50% milestone. We are excited to get closer to reaching our target.

On this occasion, we are offering a FLASH PERK of signed books by acclaimed writer Raja Shehadeh. You can now find them in the rewards section.

=========================================================

The Past 2 years were not easy!

Palestinian artisans have been among the most affected groups during the tensions and events of the past two years. With the ongoing pandemic, and military occupation in Palestine.

All of this has been devastating for artisans who were already struggling to maintain their craftsmanship and sustain their livelihoods. For artisans, who rely heavily on local markets, bazaars, and festivals to sell products, covid has been crushing.

Our mission to support Palestinian artisans means we host bi-annual bazaars, sell handicrafts in our display and at other venues. Due to Covid, we haven’t been able to host artisan markets since last year. Our display in Ramallah has also been fully closed since last year due to lockdowns. Due to all of the above, artisans had no access to resources, nor were able to produce or market their creations, in turn, we were not able to buy and sell their work.

But in a country where our people are guided by the concept of sumud صمود - our steadfastness, we always find a way to survive. That means new paths when those we have known are closed or destroyed.

With all hardships, Palestinians are always Resilient

* Having an online shop saved our project so we could support artisans. If we had only marketed artisans' goods at our display in Ramallah, Handmade Palestine would have collapsed. Your online support has given us hope and encouragement to help more artisans sell through our online shop.

* We have curated an online bazaar so you can meet our artisans, learn where they are from, and support their work. Your donation and purchases will greatly help Handmade Palestine's artisans get back on their feet and for us to help them in the process.

Why support Handmade Palestine?

1. We work with a network that reaches more than 25 women cooperatives. Your support extends to sustain these artisans and will provide them with a steady stream of income.

2. Your support will help expand our network to support and include more artisans from Palestine.  We aim to partner and work with 5-7 new artisan groups.

3. Help us plant 2500 trees in 2021 at Mashjar Juthour. By supporting our campaign, you are not only supporting the sustainability of our work but you are also contributing to preserving Palestine’s environment. 30% of the campaign proceeds to plant trees in Ramallah, Palestine. During last year we managed to plant more than 750 trees. And in 2022 we aim to plant 30 educational trees and 300 indigenous trees in Palestine.

About Handmade Palestine

* Handmade Palestine is a fairtrade non-for-profit project founded in 2017 working with more than 25 women cooperatives, societies, and independent artisans in Palestine promoting their work locally and internationally by selling their crafts on our website and in Ramallah.

* We work with artisans from marginalized communities across Palestine - in Jerusalem, Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah, and the Gaza Strip. Most of these artisans are the sole providers for their families. Handmade Palestine helps to promote and empower our partner artisan groups to sustain their lives and those of their children and families.

* Sale proceeds from Handmade Palestine go to raise funds for an environmental project in Ramallah called Mashjar Juthour.

Our Team

Morgan started Handmade Palestine years ago as a display in her cafe in Ramallah so that artisans had a space to sell. She volunteers running the website but her favorite job is being a mom to two little ones and cooking traditional Palestinian foods!

Hi I'm Majdi (just sharing the most recent photo of me--my nephew insisted he's riding my back).

I joined Handmade Palestine as a volunteer in 2017 then became a part-timer in 2018. My deep belief in Handmade’s mission is what keeps me working on the project every day. In my free time, I make music and volunteer in a local agro-garden in Ramallah.

The End of Our Project Thanks To You

We wanted to reach out one last time and thank you for supporting our crowdfunding campaign Stronger Together!

We have finished all of our activities, which would not have been possible without your help!

Now we have dozens of new trees that you planted, two beautiful benches you built, 5 new artisans you supported and so many new members of our Handmade Palestine family.

We face devastating challenges as a small business in Palestine striving to support artisans. We truly do rely on your support and participation in our work.

Thank you again! We truly are stronger together!

Half Way Done

Dear Friends of Handmade Palestine,

We continue to express our gratitude for your support and patience. The relevant Ministries finally approved our projects and transfers in May and we have access, at long last, to the support you kindly donated.

We have begun implementing all our activities and are excited to share with you what we have been able to accomplish thus far with your help!

1. We built and installed the Legacy donation benches. Dedication plates will be installed this week. Thank you!

2. Planted donor trees: blue atlas cedar, 2 jacarandas, Atlantic pistachio, and 4 Mount Tabour Oaks.

3. We've invited 4 new artisans (we'll still add one more) to join the Handmade Palestine family! Learn about Bint el Shams, check out the handwoven wool stools from Lara, see Khoyoot's tatreez kit for kids, and welcome Dalal Sarhan with her embroidered earrings and keffiyehs.

4. We've planted around 50 indigenous trees, out of our 300 tree-goal.

5. Lastly we have begun our efforts to expand our reach to new markets in order to support our artisans in Palestine. We're doing this largely through google shopping and google ads but also developing our wholesale capacity with specific artisans.  We'll be really developing this over the next few months.

What's Next:

1. Host training workshop for artisans in early July and host bazaar in Ramallah.

2. Plant another 250 indigenous trees and 20 more educational species.

3. Continue efforts at expanding to new markets. We'll invite you to participate in this once we get further along.

4. Bring on board one more artisan to the Handmade Palestine family.

Thank you again for your commitment to this project, your patience and support! With your help, we can do so much good!

Very best, Handmade Palestine

Update on Handmade Palestine Campaign

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your support last October through December. Because of you, we reached our goal!

We had hoped to receive the donations by January and finish our projects by March. Alas, Palestine is full of obstacles and we still haven't received the donations due to bureaucracy here. We have reorganized ourselves expect to be able to start our projects next month when the donations are released to us.

Thank you for believing in us and for supporting and being part of our work in Palestine!  We'll send an update and photos as soon as we are allowed to begin working.

Very best, Handmade Palestine team & artisans
