We urgently need your support to restore a vital assistance program that benefits over 40 imams, chaplains, Islamic school principals, teachers, and staff across Canada, along with their families.

In March 2024, following years of efforts and negotiations with major insurance providers across Canada, this assistance program was successfully launched. Originally conceived by the Canadian Council of Imams in 2019, the program provides coverage for chaplains, imams, educators, and Muslim community leaders across Canada who do not receive any benefits. Siraj Institute is now taking the lead in ensuring its growth and implementation. This comprehensive program provides essential support to our community leaders, including comprehensive healthcare benefits (prescription and dental at 80%), psychotherapy by Muslim therapists, legal counseling, accounting services, childcare and retirement navigation, and more.

Thanks to our collective efforts, we secured exceptionally low premiums: $30 per single person, $55 per couple, and $115 per family per month.

A generous donor funded this program last Ramadan at no cost to the imams. However, due to a shortage of funds, the program was suspended on September 1st, leaving most of our community leaders and their families without crucial support. Over 90% of our community leaders do not receive benefits from their employers.

We have a narrow window to restore this program. We need to raise $13,577 by September 30th to cover three months of fees. If we cannot meet this goal, the program will be permanently cancelled, leaving our community leaders without the assistance they rely on.

If we can't reach the target by end of September, the plan will be cancelled, and the funds will be returned to the donors. If we raise extra funds it will go towards sustaining the program in the future, inshaAllah.

Here are some of the real stories we helped since start of this year (aliases used for privacy):

Imam Abbas, now in his 70s and retired, only receives basic social assistance through the government as his mosque cannot afford to pay pension. Not only we were able to provide him and his wife with the coverage for medication that isn't covered, but also as his children served the Muslim community in different mosques and Islamic schools, we were able to provide a dignified coverage for his children and grandchildren as well. 

Sister Aminah, a school principal of 30+ years, required a dental operation that would've cost her over $2000. However we were able to cover 80% of that, the Zakah services in her community were able to cover the rest. 

Sheikh Abubakr has been serving his community for over 20 years. For the last year his wife's glasses were duct-taped as they couldn't afford nearly $400 for a new pair. He was able to get a new pair of eyeglasses for his wife without having to beg for Zakah committee funds.
